Problem Summary

A PT South Pacific Viscose conveyor system encountered a major problem with thier belt-cleaning system. The previously installed Hosch secondary cleaner had failed and detached, causing belt damage. The issue was likely caused by the cleaner's rotating tungsten blade, which inadvertently sliced the belt.

Belt Cleaner Installation

This issue led to material carryback building beneath the conveyor, especially near the snub pulley. This presented a major challenge, as the transported material (coal) could cause operational disruptions if not addressed quickly.

Project Execution

To resolve the carryback problem and protect the belt, PT Suprabakti Mandiri recommended installing the Martin QC#1 HD primary cleaner with a brown polyurethane blade resistant to water and acid, and the Martin SQC2 Mini Square Mainframe Secondary Cleaner with a tungsten-tipped blade. Together, these cleaners provide better flexibility, protect the belt, and efficiently handle coal material.

The Suprabakti Mandiri team carried out belt cleaner installation on the PPL1 BC 1 conveyor, which has a width of 650 mm, a head pulley diameter of 440 mm (including lagging and belt thickness), and a speed of 1 m/s. This solution settled for optimal conveyor performance without interruptions.

Project Outcomes

After more than two days of operation, the results were very positive. There was no longer significant carryback accumulation near the snub pulley, the flow of coal material improved noticeably, and the belt remained in excellent condition.

Belt Cleaning System Project

Following the successful results, PT South Pacific Viscose plans to purchase additional belt cleaners for other conveyors to maintain optimal performance and reduce the risk of belt damage.
