Air Cannon Installation Project

Problem Summary

In the Banana Spoot C28 area at Port Bontang, IMM encountered a challenge in transferring coal onto ships. The sticky nature of low-grade coal led to material buildup (blockages) inside the chute.

This issue disrupted the coal’s smooth flow, which has a capacity of up to 3,700 tons per hour (TPH), which directly affects operational efficiency. To resolve this issue, IMM turned to PT Suprabakti Mandiri for an effective solution.

Project Execution

PT Suprabakti Mandiri carried out air cannon installationin of two units Martin Typhoon 70L at strategic points on the Banana Spoot C28 chute. The installation locations were selected based on a thorough analysis of critical points where material buildup originated. For maximum efficiency, blowpipe nozzles were used to clear accumulated material from the rounded corners of the chute's pathway.

Air Cannon Installation Process

The Banana Spoot's unique ability to rotate up to 360 degrees presented its own set of challenges. To address this, the hoses connecting the air supply to the air cannon units were manually attached, detached, and adjusted as needed during operation. The installation process was carried out meticulously to ensure the air cannons would function optimally in supporting a stable coal flow.

Final Outcomes

After the air cannon installation, the Martin Typhoon 70L successfully resolved the material blockage issue in the chute. Accumulated material was cleared, allowing a smooth flow of coal. The solution provided by PT Suprabakti Mandiri improved IMM’s coal transfer process, securing uninterrupted material transfer onto ships.
